Electro Acoustic Clarinet Showcase

These two works are explorations of the clarinet, the versatility, range and ability to match to electronic instruments in such a natural way that many acoustic instruments couldn't do.
Unfurling
Composition for Clarinet & Midi Gloves
This piece is created through the concept of unfurling, inspired by the physical awareness of your hands controlled movement while playing. Melodies dictated by the gloves and the position of your fingerings for the retrospective notes.
While practising this piece I was in a studio with a fan, the air would inconsistently hit the mic creating a distorted, clipped boom that subsequently would also be processed by the gloves. I loved the effect it created so I recreated this effect using a sine wave and LFO in Ableton.
This work wouldn't have been possible without the ongoing collaboration with Annie Chown creating custom coding to enable the movement of playing the clarinet to control perimeters within Ableton without sudden cutoffs.
Crossed wire Conversations

A duet formed from a concert at one hundred years gallery, the theme for this concert being addition resulted in
'Crossed wire Conversations'
and an ongoing project exploring tone blending of these two instruments.

The Visuals were created with the same ethos as the music, the shapes and lines are placed by the another’s guidance. In the visuals case, the space between text guiding the placement of trees. I wanted to reflect the sense of transformation by slowly subtly morph into silhouettes of people and candles. There is no single moment where this happens, and it never stays within one visual after the change.
